Vivian Fan

Dr. Vivian Fan is Director of Collaborative Piano at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. She has coached chamber music and taught Collaborative Piano at Colburn Academy, Sonata Class at the Conservatory, and piano master classes in the Adult Studies Program. She previously served on the piano faculty at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.
Dr. Fan has collaborated with artists including Andrew Bain, Roland Glassl, Paul Coletti, Ronald Leonard, Arnold Steinhardt, Wen-Sinn Yang, Elad Navon, Emad Zolfaghari, and Kerson Leong. She performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall in the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Brahms Unbound concert in 2011. Her recordings include Paul Chihara’s Sonata with violist Paul Coletti (Bridge Records), Bloch, Glinka, Bowen: Viola Works (Soundset Recordings), and Grand Duo with clarinetist Cristina Mateo Sáez (Soundset Recordings).
She has served as an accompanist at the Nielsen Clarinet Competitions, ARD Viola Competition, Piatigorsky Cello Festival, and Primrose International Viola Competition. As a solo pianist, she has performed with conductors Jorge Mester, Jung Ho Pak, Mario Miragliotta, Sharon Lavery, Peter Askim, and Marc Riley. Her performances have been broadcast on KTLA, KNBC, KUSC, WEMT, and APM's Performance Today.
Cristina Mateo Sáez - Clarinet

Spanish clarinetist Cristina Mateo Sáez, age 23, has been the prize winner of several national and international competitions including the Grand Prize in the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition, Second Prize at Lancelot International Clarinet Competition, Second Prize in the International Clarinet Association (ICA), as well as winner of the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) Concerto Competition and First Prize in the Villanueva del Arzobispo Clarinet Competition.
Ms. Mateo Sáez has performed as a soloist with many orchestras. Recent engagements include Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, KV. 622, under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, the world premiere of Fuminori Tanada’s “Summerwind” Concerto for Clarinet with the Rouen Opera Orchestra, Gioachino Rossini’s Introduction, Theme and Variations with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Henri Tomasi’s Clarinet Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra. In addition to her agility as a soloist, Ms. Mateo Sáez is an active recitalist and a regular participant in chamber music performances internationally.
Cristina has participated in performances with orchestras around the world, including the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, The Colburn Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and Almería Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with renowned artists such as Thomas Dausgaard, Gustavo Dudamel, Plácido Domingo, Thierry Fischer, Neville Marriner, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Stéphane Devène, Andrew Marriner, and Yo-Yo Ma, among others.
Ms. Mateo Sáez recently received a trial as Principal Clarinet with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and completed her Bachelor of Music degree at The Colburn Conservatory with Professor Yehuda Gilad.
