A native of Taiwan, Vivian Fan has performed with conductors Jorge Mester, Jung Ho Pak, Mario Miragliotta, Sharon Lavery, Peter Askim, and Marc Riley. Her solo and chamber performances have been broadcast on KTLA and KNBC television as well as KUSC, WFMT, and “Performance Today” on APM radio. Recent performances include the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s “Brahms Unbound” concert in 2011 at Walt Disney Hall and recital collaborations with artists such as Andrew Bain, Arnold Steinhardt, Wen-Sinn Yang, Sang Yoon Kim, and others. Her collaboration with renowned violist Paul Coletti on Paul Chihara’s Sonata was released by Bridge Records in 2013.
Dr. Fan coordinates the collaborative pianists and teaches Sonata Class with legendary violinist Arnold Steinhardt at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. She has also taught Piano Master Class at the Adult Studies Program at the Colburn School. Prior to this position, she was on the piano faculty at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.
Cristina Mateo Sáez - Clarinet
Spanish clarinetist Cristina Mateo Sáez, age 23, has been the prize winner of several national and international competitions including the Grand Prize in the Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition, Second Prize at Lancelot International Clarinet Competition, Second Prize in the International Clarinet Association (ICA), as well as winner of the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) Concerto Competition and First Prize in the Villanueva del Arzobispo Clarinet Competition.
Ms. Mateo Sáez has performed as a soloist with many orchestras. Recent engagements include Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, KV. 622, under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen, the world premiere of Fuminori Tanada’s “Summerwind” Concerto for Clarinet with the Rouen Opera Orchestra, Gioachino Rossini’s Introduction, Theme and Variations with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and Henri Tomasi’s Clarinet Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra. In addition to her agility as a soloist, Ms. Mateo Sáez is an active recitalist and a regular participant in chamber music performances internationally.
Cristina has participated in performances with orchestras around the world, including the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, The Colburn Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, and Almería Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with renowned artists such as Thomas Dausgaard, Gustavo Dudamel, Plácido Domingo, Thierry Fischer, Neville Marriner, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Stéphane Devène, Andrew Marriner, and Yo-Yo Ma, among others.
Ms. Mateo Sáez recently received a trial as Principal Clarinet with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and completed her Bachelor of Music degree at The Colburn Conservatory with Professor Yehuda Gilad.
