The Akademie Percussion Ensemble (APE), is a Korean professional percussion group founded by Kang-Ku Lee in September of 1993. The members are active percussionists in their own right, having studied abroad in countries such as Japan., Germany, and the U.S. These stellar musicians come together to pursue their love for percussion ensemble playing and music.

Academy annually performs youth, traveling, and specialty concerts in which they provide information and examples to help the audience better understand the medium of percussion music. In pushing the envelope on traditional percussion ensemble playing Academy incorporates various instruments, voice, and dance in order to give the audience something extra, which they have come to expect.

Academy is now focused in premiering contemporary music by young Korean composers, and has commissioned several compositions by various composers. In addition to premiering new works Academy annually invites a famous percussionist to perform as a guest artist.

Kang-Ku Lee directs the Akademie Percussion Ensemble (APE) from Seoul, South Korea. APE is the premier professional chamber percussion group in South Korea and they also run a tremendous prep program for developing percussionists.
