Les Frères Méduses
Les Frères Méduses” bring a unique and transformative voice to the world of the classical guitar. Their programming melds together new guitar works in tandem with traditional folk music and free improvisation, with a scope that includes dance, art exhibition and silent film production.
The collaboration between French guitarist Benoît Albert and American guitarist Randall Avers began the Paris Conservatory where, as students, they were awarded the 1ère prix for Chamber Music (1999). The duo rejoined in 2008 under the pseudonym "Les Frères Méduses” (The Jellyfish Brothers) with a focus on bringing new music and ideas to the concert stage. Audiences and critics in Europe and the US have acclaimed their performances as “Spontaneous and engaging, their programs are a blend of energetic interpretation and improvisation, that meld seamlessly into a single performance.”
Highlights of the 2019 season include performances of their film score “The Unknown” in Norway and the US with violinist Jennifer Choi. Guitarists Randall Avers and Benoît Albert perfectly captured the twisted (but now retro-funny) drama of director Tod Browning’s rather demented tale, blending in the gypsy jazz sounds, references to the classical guitar repertoire, a few flamenco stylings and plenty of neo-Impressionist mood. Austin Chronicle, Austin TX.
They will be performing and lecturing about silent film improvisation at the Guitar Foundation of America Festival (GFA) in Maimi, FL, and releasing a double CD “Dedication/Still Life”, that combines improvised music with music composed by Ourkouzounov, Williams, Avers and Albert.
Randall Avers teaches guitar at Asker Kulturskole in Norway, and Benoit Albert is Guitar Professor at la Conservatoire de Toulouse.
Les Frères Méduses are sponsored by Saverez Strings and represented by Dan McDaniel Agency, LLC. Their compositions are available at Productions D’oz and Clear Note Publications.
