In demand as a performer, adjudicator, and lecturer, Louis Nagel has
appeared in many festivals and on college campuses across the
United States. He has given acclaimed New York recitals and has
performed in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Internationally, he has appeared in solo recitals and with orchestra
in Berlin, Budapest, Vienna, Edinburgh, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Sydney,
Taichung, Warsaw and Lublin.
He appears frequently in chamber music programs in the Metropolitan Detroit area and yearly in Orchestra Hall. His lectures at Ann Arbor's Kerrytown Concert House and for the Adult Learning Institute in Farmington Hills are highly popular events. Included in his discography are four of the Bach Partitas for Educo Records, and a CD for the Equilibrium label entitled Four Centuries of J.S. Bach, a disc which has been praised by both Murray Perahia and David Dubal. Louis Nagel is winner of numerous prestigious prizes including the National Arts Club, National Federation of Music Clubs, and the Geneva International Competition. He has adjudicated many important competitions including the National Federation of Music Clubs, The Texas State Piano Teachers, The Camerata Competition, and the Joanna Hodges Piano Competition. With his wife, psychologist/pianist Julie Jaffee Nagel, he has collaborated in four-hand and two piano recitals as well as lectures on Schumann, Mozart, performance anxiety, and stress in teaching. His articles and reviews appear in THE JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN LISZT SOCIETY, CLAVIER MAGAZINE and PIANO AND KEYBOARD. A graduate of The Juilliard School he studied piano with Rosina Lhevinne and Josef Raieff, and piano literature with Joseph Bloch. Subsequent to his graduation he worked with Vladimir Ashkenazy. Many of Dr. Nagel's students are active as performers conductors and teachers both in the United States and abroad. |
