About our LOG DRUMS:
In percussion ensemble works such as Marimba Spiritual, and Coyote Dreams, and Ginestera's – Cantata para América Mágica or Roldan's &ndash Ritmicas (as a substitute for a Marimbula - I prefer the sound of these lower log drums to the the low end of the timbre of a tempered marimba), these low drum work fantastically well. For the Rouse works – Kuka Ilimoku & Ogun Badagris and Zivkovic's Uneven Souls, the higher pitches would be more effective and cut through the din of the membranophones and timpani in Kuka Ilimoku. Thus, a wider range of pitches allows for greater flexibility. For louder dynamics and greater high partials projecting for more of a New Genie type of log drum sound, the boxes can be put on a carpeted table and placed on their side so each drum rests on one handle at the top of the box and the edge of its base and then the 5" width side of the box can be played with medium rubber mallets like an Encore 13 or 14 latex rubber mallet as an example, and you'll get quite percussive log type sounds with varied pitches. You can also get a third timbrel effect by playing with the drums in the stand, by playing beyond the tongue towards the far end of each box. The stand is not included in the price. However on our site, under "Stands" – "Log Drum Stand", there are pictures as to how to construct a stand. People use PVC, or as shown in the photos, Holleander Speed-Rail fittings with Schedule 40/T-6 Aluminum. I can send you specific plans should you want or need them.
