QUOTES

"At the Washington National Opera many of our productions require bell sounds. In my 8 seasons as principal percussionist I have been searching for the timbre and precise intonation that these Operas require. I have found that sound in the Equilibrium Bass chimes. We have now used these chimes in many productions; including Tosca, Macbeth, Il Trovatore, Gianni Schicchi and an upcoming Caverlia Rusticana. In each of these productions I have found the EQ chimes to have a superior sound, great intonation and the ability to add one more beautiful nuance into the overall performance of the great operatic repertoire." ➢ John Spirtas, Principal Percussionist – Washington National Opera, The Kennedy Center

"Washington National Opera is delighted to have Equilibrium Percussion as the exclusive provider of our bass chimes. We look forward to every opportunity to incorporate additional pitches to our collection of these fine instruments. Equilibrium is a company of the highest professional standard, which is inherent in both the exceptional quality of their chimes as well as the superior level of service we have received." ➢ Aaron Doty, Orchestra Manager – Washington National Opera

"As the principal percussionist of an opera orchestra, I depend on Equilibrium Chimes for all the special needs that we come across regularly. From the low notes for Tosca to the high c played with 1 inch metal mallets in Simon Bocanegra. The chimes have a rich luxurious tone with a clear pitch center. Usually, when the low chimes are played they are solos and extremely exposed. The Equilibrium chimes rise to the occasion and always sound with a clear precise pitch and beautiful tone. Our Maestro has always been pleased with the Equilibrium Chimes." ➢ Richard Brown – Houston Grand Opera, Principal Percussion; Rice University, Shepherd School of Music, Professor of Percussion

EQ Bass Chimes currently resonate at:
Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, National Symphony,
Houston Symphony, Utah Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony,
South Dakota Symphony, Hong Kong Philharmonic,
Seoul Philharmonic, Washington National Opera,
Houston Grand Opera, The Santa Fe Opera

"The Equilibrium bass chimes have become an essential addition to the Kettles and Company instrument collection. The  EBCs chimes bolster the KC commitment to providing the music world the finest and most historically accurate percussion instruments available. For the first time in the 30 year history of KC, we are able to provide chime notes (thought to be impossible to duplicate and offer) to an international music community thus satisfying the needs of compositions that require extraordinary beauty and clarity and accuracy in pitch and tesatura. In our equilibrium chimes we have found the truest sound  thus enabling percussionist the ability to transform the  music of the composers who wrote for these extraordinary instruments, in their extraordinary compositions." ➢ Jonathan Haas, Kettlescompany@gmail.com

“...so Maestro Mario Venzago screams over the orchestra during Mahler 7th. (‘low bells’) “what are those wonderful things”... the orchestra turns, smiles and shuffles their feet. ~ Mike, you made me a hero... the section sounded like a million bucks.” “Mario Venzago, music director of ISO allows with enthusiasm his quote and indeed is talking the chimes up in Europe. At last the answer for church bells.” ➢ Paul Berns – Personnel Manager & Percussionist with: Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra

“Hello Mr Udow! Yesterday we used the chimes and the stand. They were really good!! Thanks again!” ➢ Minjee Kim: Administration – Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra

"Finally!!! A solution to the low chime and bell demands of the orchestral and opera repertoire that is both accessible and affordable! Superior craftsmanship and first class customer service have really made it a pleasure to do business with Equilibrium." ➢ Edward Choi, Principal Percussionist – Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra

Whenever the Rochester Philharmonic has played 'Symphonie Fantastique', we have tried many different instruments or combination of instruments over the years with varying degrees of success. It wasn't until I purchased Mike Udow's Symphonic Chimes that I finally had what I had been searching for: Chimes that REALLY sound like church bells!" ➢ Brian Stotz,Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra

"Thank you again for the tubular bells. They were absolutely beautiful, with just the right tone for James MacMillan's Veni Veni Emmanuel. The bells are tuned perfectly to provide the deep, resonant sound of church bells, so fitting for the end of that work. The effect was breathtaking, and the audience sat in spell-bound silence as the tones slowly died away. We look forward to enjoying these for years to come." ➢ Amy Clithero Gill, Director of Operations & Community Engagement Memphis Symphony Orchestra
